The tournament, which runs Aug. 20 to Sept. 5 in England, features three pools of four teams with defending champion New Zealand, 2006 runners-up England and 2006 bronze medallist France seeded first in their groups.

The French beat Canada 17-8 in the third-place game in 2006, when the tournament was held in Edmonton.

New Zealand, England, France, Canada, the U.S., and South Africa all qualified directly for the finals, with Wales and Ireland earning their spot through the Six Nations, Sweden and Scotland from the European qualifiers in May, Australia as Oceania qualifier and Kazakhstan from Asia.

The qualification stage, which saw 16 teams compete for the six remaining non-automatic berths, was completed when Kazakhstan defeated Japan 43-5 to claim a place in Pool B.

Pool A features New Zealand, Wales, Australia and South Africa while Pool B consists of England, the U.S., Ireland and Kazakhstan.

The match schedule will be announced Monday at Twickenham. Six team captains will attend, including Canada's Mandy Marchuk.

"We are very confident we can turn that result around. They are a very strong side but so are we," said Spencer.

"It is a great opportunity to play after the men at Twickenham [the women's match kicks off at 1645 GMT]. Hopefully a lot of the supporters will stay on and watch us too.

"It is a big game between the top two women's teams in international rugby. It is a fantastic opportunity for them to see what the women's game is all about."

England clinched their fourth successive Women's Six Nations title this year, but are without six first-choice players with Rochelle Clark, Katy Storie, Sarah Hunter, Sarah Beale, Karen Jones and Danielle Waterman all sidelined with injuries.

Their opponents, the Black Ferns, are the dominant power in the women's game.

They have won the last three World Cups, in 1998, 2002 and 2006, beating England in the last two finals.

The pools for next year's World Cup, to be held in London from 20 August to 5 September, were announced on Wednesday.

England, top seeds in their pool, will face USA, Ireland and Kazakhstan.

Wales - who beat England in this year's Six Nations - are in with favourites New Zealand, Australia and South Africa.

Scotland are in the third pool of four with the other top seeds France, plus Canada and Sweden.
